Burner flame on a gas furnaceEngineers at GexCon have investigated the cause of carbon monoxide (CO) exposures that allegedly resulted from poor combustion in furnaces, boilers, portable space heaters, portable generators and motor vehicles. They have experience in the formation, migration, detection, exposure and mitigation of carbon monoxide.

GexCon staff have identified the source of various carbon monoxide (CO) leaks, which have included damaged equipment, poor design, improper installation, and naturally occuring events such as animals nesting in vent pipes. Utilizing portable combustion gas analyzers and other detectors, GexCon engineers have the ability to test and quantify carbon monoxide (CO) emissions and migration.  In addition, GexCon engineers can apply the industry recognized CFD model FLACS to determine the emission and subsequent migration of carbon monoxide in various types of structures including residential, commercial and industrial facilities.

The application of CFD models to these types of analyses allows a more realistic representation of the release and dispersion scenarios, resulting in a more accurate understanding of the hazards, and a more effective use of mitigation techniques such a detector placement. A GexCon engineer serves as a principal member of the NFPA 720 (Standard for the Installation of Carbon Monoxide [CO] Detection and Warning Equipment) technical committee of the National Fire Protection Association.  GexCon engineers have experience in the testing of carbon monoxide detectors per UL 2034 (Single and Multiple Station Carbon Monoxide Alarms), as well as the analysis of carbon monoxide uptake and sensor technologies employed in detectors.
